GRASSROOTS CHAPTER ORGANIZING INTERN
Reports to: Outreach Coordinator
Internship Summary:The goal of this internship is to help Floresta start a test chapter in order for supporters and volunteers to have an outlet for getting involved with our organization.  The goal of a Floresta chapter is to create awareness of Floresta as well as the broader issues that are relevant to Floresta’s work.  Floresta is involved in the Creation Care movement and the Sustainable Development movement, just to name a few.  The backbone to any movement is the local, grassroots involvement.  Your help with implementing a Floresta chapter would allow Floresta to maintain our participation as well as contribute to these movements in a positive way!
Specific Tasks: The intern will be organizing a chapter.  This will involve event planning, organizing, and hosting.  The intern will need to engage prospective chapter-goers.  The intern will help to develop a chapter plan with the Outreach Coordinator.
Hours per week: up to 15
Requirements:

  • Be well organized
  • Be an independent, self-starter
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be flexible and resourceful
  • Have relevant leadership experience
  • Have completed some university credits

VOLUNTEER COORDINATING INTERN
Reports to: Outreach Coordinator
Internship Summary: Help develop local outreach and awareness materials and events to create advocates, recruit, and equip volunteers.
Specific Tasks:
- Create materials to be used for outreach (i.e. brochure, signs, power point)
- Put together a toolkit for advocates to use
- Help make connections with universities to solicit interest and participation from college students
Hours per week: 10-20
Requirements: Detail oriented, outgoing, ability to multi-task, and has passion for our cause
Skills/Education: Microsoft Office, persuasive writing skills, organization
Experience: Event organization, creating partnerships, volunteer experience

TEAM FLORESTA INTERN
Reports to: Outreach Coordinator
Internship Summary: Team Floresta: Initiate a program in which ‘Floresta Teams’ can be created so participants in races can use Floresta as their charity of choice. It allows their run to “count for more” while also engaging them in a community.
Specific Tasks: Create a forum for Team Floresta runners to encourage each other and share training/ fundraising strategies on the web, host a Pasta Dinner the night before the race, and offer refreshments at the finish.
Hours per week: 5-15
Requirements: Independent self-starter, organized, comfortable networking, and has passion for our cause
Skills/Education: Microsoft Office, persuasive writing skills, organization
Experience: Leadership, awareness of social-networks

PUBLIC RELATIONS/ GRANT WRITER INTERN
Reports to: Director of Communication/Grant Writer
Internship Summary: Assist on research and preparing of grants
Specific Tasks:
- Database entry/maintenance
- Various administrative tasks
- Research Foundations, future funding sources
- Assist with development of new tracking procedures
Hours per week: 5-10
Requirements: Detail oriented, good writing skills, outgoing, ability to multi- task, comfortable on the phone, research ability and has passion for our cause
Skills/Education: Microsoft Office (including Publisher), able to make phone contact, organization, graphic design skills a plus, creativity
Experience: Some communication background, understanding of media/mass marketing a plus

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Reports to: Evaluation Specialist
Overview of position: Research and develop case studies based on similar
organizations in the non-profit or for profit sectors for integrating new
innovations and recognized or emerging best practices (technical
development) into existing organizational management structures.

Floresta is a Christian community development organization, which works with
farmers in developing countries to help them improve their environmental and
economic situations. Floresta is continually seeking to improve by learning,
developing, and integrating best practices in the areas of sustainable
agriculture, savings and credit, organizational and leadership capacity
building, and other areas as appropriate.

Specific Tasks:
1. Research best practices on integrating technical developments into management systems and organizational development
2. Develop case studies and identify key contacts
3. Coordinate regularly with Evaluation specialist
4. Present a written report of findings
5. Research and report writing is expected to be completed within 6 months
Hours/Week: 20hr
Requirements: Strong skills in literature and web research and ability and interest in organizational development, good writing skills, basic understanding of community development.
Skills/Education: 3rd or 4th year Bachelors or 1st year masters program
Experience: previous research training and experience required

DATABASE MANAGEMENT INTERN
Reports to: Sponsor a Village Administrator
Internship Summary: Help organize and customize our database.
Specific Tasks: enter data, run reports  
Hours per week: 5-15
Required Skills: systematic, detail oriented, computer literate
Experience: previous database experience a plus! (especially if it happens to be eTapestry!)
Benefits to the intern: work in a great environment and use your skills to help a great cause!
