REDUCE YOUR TAX LIABILITY —  DONATE YOUR STOCK TO FLORESTA!

Donating stock to Floresta is a tax-wise approach toward humanitarian and environmental relief. If you own stock that has appreciated, transferring it to Floresta (as opposed to donating the value) will eliminate your paying capital gains tax on the stock. Not only will this reduce your tax liability (since you will be able to write off 100% of the fair market value as a donation), but you will be using that money to help transform lives around the world—it’s a win-win situation! Giving through stock transfers can work as follows:

Say you purchased stock worth $2,000 a few years ago. Today, this investment has increased in value to $12,000. If you sell it, you are responsible for capital gains tax on the profit amount of $10,000: if, for example, you are in the 28% tax bracket, this would mean giving $2,800 to the government! On the other hand, if you donate the stock to Floresta, you pay absolutely no capital gains tax at all. In addition, you gain a full $12,000 federal income deduction. And Floresta gets the full $12,000.


HOW TO DONATE STOCK

Donating stock is as easy as two steps. Here’s how:

Step 1:  Initiate an electronic transfer through your broker.  Electronic transfer is the simplest and most secure way of donating stock. Instruct your broker to electronically transfer your securities out of your account and into the Floresta account. In order to make a transfer, you will need to give your broker the following recipient (Floresta) information:

Step 2:  Contact Floresta.  After you have initiated the transfer, it is important you contact Floresta’s Director of Finance, Kristen Tucker, as soon as possible because transfers arrive in our accounts without donor identification. You may use any of the following contact methods:
