Volunteer of the Quarter

From La Jolla High to Duke University and back again, this talented San Diego native is a fearless leader in Christian environmental stewardship. While studying Environmental Management at Duke, Ellery¹s masters thesis was entitled ³The Greening of the Christian Church², explaining that Christians offer many powerful qualities and convictions that secular environmentalists lack for the better stewardship of God¹s creation. Ellery¹s passion for the Christian call to environmental stewardship is not limited to her pen alone. She was active in her community in and around Duke, and now back in Southern California, she has taken the initiative to invest her volunteer time in organizations whose philosophies mirror her own. Floresta was a perfect match. For the fall of 2002, Ellery worked in the Floresta office 3 days a week, organizing for the Alternative Christmas Fairs, representing Floresta at numerous community events, and utilizing her creativity in many ways, from sprucing up drab signage to reorganizing to translating Floresta documents. Now in the Spring of 2003, her prolific pen is back at work, writing grant proposals part-time. Ellery said, ³I have found volunteering at Floresta so rewardingŠ It's an amazing feeling when you contribute to projects that not only help protect God's creation but actually lift people out of poverty at the same time. That Floresta can accomplish these two extremely challenging goals makes this organization truly blessed.² She continued, ³I think that sponsoring a village is one of the best ways to spend that little extra in your pocket every month -- it's only a dollar a day!² Thank you so much, Ellery, for all your hard work. Floresta is very blessed to have you as a part of our team. May God continue to bless you as you continue to serve Him!
