Sponsor a Village Spotlight: Dewotinn
In the last issue of The Sower we announced our new Sponsor A Village Program. This program allows donors to become personally involved with one of the communities where we are working. Up to ten sponsors per village will help to provide loans, training and empowerment through their monthly gifts of $30. Sponsors will be provided with photos and regular updates as to how the members of their community are growing in the Floresta program.
In each issue of the Sower we will be spotlighting a new community in need of sponsors.
Dewotinn – The village of Dewotinn is located in Haiti, in a deep rock-filled valley. During the rainy season the water floods through the valley, but throughout most of the year it is extremely dry. Dewotinn has one of the newer cooperatives, with 99 members. They have recently received their first loans. The president of the group is Brno Do, but his wife, Madame Brno is the real leader. Dressed in a brown dress with a bright purple scarf on her head, she has a kind of a glow about her, with eyes that twinkle as she talks. On my first visit to Dewotinn last June she related to me how she had prayed fervently that Floresta would come to her village, and she could hardly believe that the dream had finally come true. When we visited in March the co-op members were singing together as they worked on soil erosion barriers down in the valley. As we met, they told us of how they had used their loans, and of the difference that it had made in their lives. Later in the day they had a festival to thank God for the harvest of crops that had been planted in the fall. Unfortunately there had been no rainy season this winter, and almost no harvest. Nonetheless, undaunted, they gave thanks for the blessings that God had given them over the past year.
This village needs sponsors, to ensure that Floresta can continue to work there. One of their biggest needs is cisterns like Floresta has provided in some neighboring villages. To sponsor Dewotinn, or any other village, use the button below.
