Chinapa, Mexico - A Village Touched by God
By Neysa Murch

During the last week of August, I traveled with Floresta on a mission trip to Chinapa, Mexico. Less than 200 people live in the remote and mountainous village of Chinapa, in the state of Oaxaca. While in Chinapa, I praised God because I saw the fruition of His promise in Exodus 20:6,

“I lavish my love on those who love me and obey my commands even for a thousand generations” (NLT).

Chinapa is a Christian village and God has blessed His people with fellowship and material goods.  All of the children from the village play together as brothers and sisters.  Also the bonds amongst nuclear families are very strong.  After a farewell ceremony for the team I stayed in the church with the Chinapa women and a woman named Ely who is Floresta’s field chaplain.  I felt the undeniable presence of the Holy Spirit as Ely began to pray for each woman who had remained in the church.  I am not sure what was said as she prayed but I know that almost every eye was wet with tears.  I witnessed a strong sense of love for one another among the women.  Through a partnership with La Jolla Presbyterian Church, God has given the people running water and a woodshop.  The woodshop is a new addition to the village and with it villagers hope to make furniture that can be sold in Oaxaca City.  Please take time today to ask the Lord for continued blessings in Chinapa.
